Just like all the other issues surrounding sharks at the moment (nets, drumlines, culling, protection, etc) cage diving can certainly be in the highly contentious category.

While it may be a pretty amazing experience to see one of these razor toothed monsters from the, ahem, “safe”, confines of a cage, there are a lot of negative theories that have arisen from the activity. Including mammoth sharks associating humans/divers/surfers with literally meat on a stick.

Things got a little too close for comfort for tourists cage diving off the shores of Mexico, when one mammoth white somehow found its way into the cage while a diver was inside.

Fortunately, the shark managed to escape – though the roof, no less – and the diver was uninjured.

Now we don’t intend to tarnish Mexican manufacturing methods, but how exactly did a shark that size squeeze into one of those cages? See for yourself.
