This photo was taken by Air T&G Helicopter Service over Byron Bay on November 20th, 2015. “These pictures have not been digitally enhanced or altered with. A number of White sharks were sighted but a lot of the animals were in deeper water so the species is unknown. Stay safe everyone.”

On November 11th, nine days before these images were released, 20-year-old Sam Morgan was attacked in Ballina. Since then, things have gone quiet. And sadly, it seems like the longest period of time we’ve gone without a fatality for quite some time.

So it might be time to ask… have things changed?

Could it be that whales aren’t migrating past these waters right now, and because of that, the sharks aren’t attracted? But if that’s the case, was our original theory that the sharks have started lingering, incorrect?

Have the temperatures changed?

Is there more food?

Are there less sharks?

Are there fewer surfers?

Have they figured out we’re not juicy tunas?

Or, have we just been on a lucky streak, and nothing is different?

We’ll be looking into this over the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
