The Hurley Winter Classic

Tuesday, 30 July 2013

On the weekend past South Australia saw it's first majorly sponsored competition since the whole Fantatic Noodle Kangaroo Island Pro rigmarole went down in 2011, the Hurley Winter Classic. Although it wasn't a six star event, it saw the best of the South Australians go head to head in the fun waves of Waitpinga.

Khai Adams took out the Men's division by utilising his go-for-broke style (possibly because he was surfing blind from all that hair) and Tayla Hanak took out the Women's division.

Sixteen-year-old uber grom Kyle Imgraben from Seaford shredded his way to victory in the Boys Division, Kyle's surfing at this event had many on the beach asking why he wasn't also competing in the Men's competition as he systematically destroyed wave after wave, consistently posting nine point rides. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Francis from Middleton was another young surfer who surfed exceptionally well all day to win the Girls division. Ellie revelled in the clean 3ft waves scoring highly with a surfing style that is both smooth and powerful.

More of the day's highlights, here.
