The water is getting warmer so it’s time to ditch your steamer and get back into boardies. Something that will help ease your transition is the new Rip Curl E-Bomb Pro 1mm vest. This is from Rip Curl’s top-of-the-line Ultimate range, meaning it has super stretch neoprene that’s lighter, warmer and more flexible. It also has a ton of features including a key-stash zipper pocket that’s easily accessed on your lower back, and an adjustable waist with a loop to tie to your boardies to keep it from riding up your back. It’s super comfortable, and even after hours of surfing the seams never showed any signs of rashing. The seams are also super flexible, which really helps when putting it on or taking off, and minimises the amount of time you spend helicoptering solo in the carpark, like a crazed Houdini trying to ditch his straight jacket.
When the water’s cool the vest provides warmth and keeps the morning breeze off, while still offering you the freedom of surfing in boardies. It provides great sun relief (100% UV protection), but with only 1mm of thickness you won’t get too hot when the sun comes out and the water starts to boil. It’s a tad pricy, but it’s pretty damn good.
