Macaronis

What do you do when your resort – which is situated on the doorstep of one of the world’s best and most consistent waves – gets wasted by a tsunami? You rebuild him! Make him bigger, stronger, and more robust. And that’s exactly what the team at Macaronis are in the process of doing right now.

the basics

Although they can’t turn out exact numbers yet, they’re in the process of working towards 16 private suites on the second level of the main building for each of their visiting surfer guests, each with air-conditioning, a queen-sized bed and private ensuite bathroom, as well as other modern facilities.

expedition essentials

hardware: Two short boards and a medium sized board. You don’t need big boards in the Mentawais, especially at Macaronis.
non-surf: iPod, sunscreen, camera/video camera and a travel insurance policy are all necessary non-surf items.
medical: Medivac procedure is up to individual travel insurance policy. They’ve had people evacuated by helicopter before using “Cover More” travel insurance in Australia, whom they recommend (www.covermore.com.au). Inoculations should be discussed with a health professional, however in the past six years, no one has caught Malaria whilst staying at Macaronis Resort.
