Laura Signs With Billabong

Wednesday, 27 February 2013

The moment the Nike/Hurley shake up created the world's biggest surf team, speculation began as to what changes would come next. One of the biggest questions on punters' lips was whether Hurley could keep its now enormously enlarged squad. Today we saw the first of the next round of sticker swaps when Billabong announced that Laura Enever has signed to surf for the Burleigh-based brand.

Enever, 21, is one of the world's most popular female surfers and will start the 2013 ASP World Tour ranked eighth in the world. After fitting perfectly with the Nike brand, and even appearing in ads with tennis mega-star Maria Sharapova, the forced move to Hurley mustn't have seemed so desirable. With Billabong having no Aussie girls on the WCT they were quick to pounce on the bubbly Northern Beaches dancing queen.

"Billabong are thrilled to add Laura to our roster," said Graham Stapelberg, Billabong's Global Marketing Manager. "Not only is she a brilliant surfer and a top competitor, but Laura has emerged as something of a style icon within the beach lifestyle world, which makes her a perfect representative for Billabong."

Enever has amassed a formidable collection of titles including the Australian, ISA and ASP Junior Championships. She joined the women's WCT in 2011, at age 18, and has finished 10th and 8th in her two years on tour. Laura was runner-up at the Roxy Pro in 2012 and will be looking to kick start her campaign going one place better in the hometwon of her new sponsor at this year's event.

"I really love what Billabong represents,"said Laura. "It's a core surf brand with high performance products, but at the same time brings out the beauty of the beach lifestyle. My other passion besides surfing is the fashion world, and it's clear Billabong is all about taking high fashion to the beach. They are collaborating with fashion bloggers and coming out with amazing products and wetsuits. Beach fashion is changing and Billabong is leading the way. I'm excited!"

Enever will be representing the brand in competitions, photo shoots and appearances worldwide for years to come. Importantly she will also be working on special fashion collections inspired by her travel experiences to the most exotic surfing destinations on the planet.
