The lean, mean tail-throwing machine, otherwise known as Owen Wright, has celebrated his 20th birthday by re-signing with Dragon. Owen has been with Dragon since he was a micro grom and will be leading the new school charge on this year’s ASP World Tour.

The 2009 season was massive for Owen: he didn’t lose a single heat on the Australasia Pro Junior circuit, securing the highest amount of prize money in the history of the event, and winning the entire series, despite not competing in all of the events.

Owen also took down Kelly Slater and Dane Reynolds at pumping Bells, and won his first six-star WQS event, the Sri Lankan Airlines Pro Maldives. Then, he backed up his record by beating Slater again at the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal where he ended up 3rd overall, and capped off his year by qualifying for the ASP World Tour. He also won ASL's prestigious Hot 100 and the cover of ASL issue 256.

Dragon caught up with Owen hours before he boarded a plane to Tahiti to get his thoughts on the re-sign. “Yeah, feels great! I’m stoked to be on the team again and I’m looking forward to some more good times with Dragon,” says Owen. “The sunnies are awesome, but I love the snow goggles, too! I’ve liked Dragon since I was a kid, I loved the logo and the product, but now I know a lot of the guys and girls that work there and they are real cool and easy!”

Owen rejoins two-time World Champion Mick Fanning, surfing legend Rob Machado, and a crew of other world-class talents, making Dragon’s team easily one of the best in the business.

Dragon’s Global Brand Manager, Rick Irons, is confident in Owen’s ability and excited to have him on the team in 2010: “Dragon is stoked to have Owen locked in going forward. He is going to make a big impact on the surf world this year and we think he is a perfect fit for our brand. He is edgy, young, and spontaneous, with a sense of confidence that is unique. We have supported him from the beginning and it’s exciting to see what the future holds on the Tour and in his freesurfing.”

Look for Owen to be wearing the new JAM series shades from Dragon, coming out this spring and doing some damage on the WCT 2010 season.
