There was only one story to come out of today’s action at the Hurley Pro. Joel Parkinson, runaway world number one, was bundled out of the Trestles event by 35 year old, jungle wandering, Rob Machado.

Well I’m at Trestles and the boys are in the air. What was left of the vans were returned this afternoon, with a bit of explaining to do.

Friday night in downtown Ventura, and although we were low key it was fun to eat at the Busy Bee Diner in amongst the Elvis memorabilia and waitresses in pigtails, before finding a beachside carpark and calling it a night.

Two days ago we drove past Ventura, heading south at a rate of knots. Since then, we’ve made it 99% of the way to the Mexican border, gone wild in San Diego, rolled back up through Hollywood, and now find ourselves back in Dane Reynolds’ home town.

Yeah, sorry about that, but sometimes you can’t find free wireless in the middle of nowhere (unlike now, as I post up on a street corned in downtown San Diego, working on my piles in wet boardies, sitting on a wet kerb).

We’ve been everywhere, man. Over the last few days we’ve spanned a few hundred miles either side of Santa Cruz, grinding it out trying to make the most of what we’ve got.
