Chopes from the mountain summit. Pic Kirstin/ASP.
Signs of the new swell have started to appear, but it's still too inconsistent to run the event.
After waiting for calls all morning in the pouring rain contest organizers have called today a lay-day. There's 15 heats left to run and tomorrow is the last day of the waiting period. It won't be massive Chopes, but the swell is expected to build all afternoon and into tomorrow. Some of the surfers have extended their trips as a six to eight foot swell is expected to hit on Tuesday, unfortunately Billabong can't extend the waiting period. With 12 surfers now chopped the back half of the year is set to be the most cutthroat yet. ASL caught up some crew who are safe, for now, to get the D.L on the new setup.
So what's the verdict on the new format?
