Will H-S Davey Cathels cracks the lip. Pic Rip Curl
Rip Curl have just launched their latest exploratory adventure, the snappily titled online series Tip 2 Tip. Over the next coupla month the Curl crew will be releasing a series of webisodes and blogs from their nautical adventure, from one end of the Indonesian archipelago to the other. To celebrate the touch down of episode one, we spoke to one of the clip’s stars, Davey Cathels.
"I was on the first trip for Tip 2 Tip,” says Narrabeen’s next big thing. “Rip Curl are covering Indonesia and the whole Mentawai island chain in six months, filming the whole time. We only went to Sumbawa and Lombok, but there were so many waves it was crazy. We scored really good Supersuck and Donuts in Sumabwa,” says Davey. “It’s such a good setup, with a left on one side of the bay and a right on the other, and pretty much what you dream of for a boat trip like this."
Who else was on board the first leg? "Koa Smith is this 15-year-old Hawaiian kid who's funny as hell,” says Davey. “I've hung with American Dillon Perillo a fair bit, and we're good mates so it was unreal to have him there. He rips too. It was sick to have Garut Widiarta along, he's the ultimate happy Balo, he's funny and was blowing up when the surf was good. (Brazilian) Gabriel Medina was outta control, he rips, he's totally worth they hype. One day me and Dillon were surfing this small left and could barely manage a coupla reos, and Gabe was throwing down two air-reverses and a finner, it was mental."
Sounds bloody good. Much like the first episode, so be sure to check it out below.
