Classic, stylish, round pin outline; that blue resin tint.
Intermediate to good surfer and beyond in solid hollow or open-faced waves 3-8 feet.
Almost none – slight deck bumps.
I wore blue boardies and used a blue leggie when I rode this one, just in honour of the tint. I’d like to get this board out at Ulus, down Racetrack when it’s good. It’s a board that isn’t quite suited to a beachbreak. It feels a bit confined in that smaller space, like an Indy car in a suburban street. But get it in down-the-line point or reef waves where you could open it up a bit more and it’d handle those more open spaces like a dream.
I thought this board was a natural. The outline is superb and matched the foil and the slightly old school down-rail lines. Paddling it through a lineup felt like a pleasure by itself. I rode it in small reef surf, which probably wasn’t its best look just on a size basis, but whenever the board developed a hint of speed it just seemed to sigh and settle into the wave face; it felt a lot like the faster and heavier the wave environment, the calmer and more controlled this board would get. Kind of wanted to take it with me actually.

XANADU’s call: “All the California shapers are beating themselves to death trying to make the world’s next great small-wave board. And we’ve got so many grovellers in the range, so many really good smaller craft of different kinds that this board gets a bit overshadowed. But this is a super-popular board. A lot of the pros seem to order it on the basis of high performance, especially in better waves. I think that’s similar to what is going on for a lot of makers, that a good-quality wave board is much more popular than it seems at present. The blue tint, we’ve been doing a lot of tints lately and they look amazing, the translucent resin just glows. You don’t encounter a flat block colour, you can just look straight through it. Tints make a board feel more one-off – that’s what you want boards to be like.”
Flat to subtle single to double concave to flat exit, tapered semi-gun high-performance outline.
