The concave, around 7/8”, blew everyone’s minds; Nick’s actual board.
Any surfer 70-75 kilos looking for a super-fast board in any conditions 1-6 feet.
Almost none, minimal denting.
One of my favourites, a really fun board. Just a bit too short and thin for me, but there were a lot of good points about this board. It drew a nice line and came out of the bottom well and you could get speed on it quite easily. Having a 6’1” version for this would be nice for me I reckon.
Maurice has such a good rep. He’s been working with Ross Clarke-Jones on towboards down in Vicco and you can see that in this board. It’s got a full concave nose to tail and when you hold it under your arm you’re like, “What IS this?” But get on it and it’s so responsive and fun to ride. It would go wherever you wanted it to go – if you wanted it to turn in the pocket it would, no catching. It’s super light too. I’d like to surf it in a clean, long right-hander, maybe Snapper or Trestles, a wave that breaks at a constant speed, 'cause you could do whatever you wanted.

Maurice’s call: “I changed this one from what I’d been doing just beforehand. Until now they’ve been made for the back-foot drive, like a towboard. The tail was straight and the rail line about three feet up really started to accelerate into the nose curve. With this one I wanted to change the balance, so I moved that back and lowered the nose rocker. That’s really why the concave is so massive-looking, it’s a by-product of shifting the curves back into the board. But because of that, it’s a lot better balanced now; the sweet spot isn’t just in the tail section. That’s still the best part of the board, but you can ride it from all over. It looks more radical, but it’s more normal. The initial reaction people usually have is towards the rail edges. They say, ‘Won’t they catch?’ They don’t know where to start with it. But it’s not the rails that cause a board to catch, it’s the rocker. Once they ride it, they know.”
