Pulled this one out of the board bag and the tail immediately caught my eye. It was nicely pulled in so I thought to myself here’s a nice down-the-line sort of board. It was the opposite of a swallowtail – I don’t even know what you call a tail shape like that. Anyway, it was definitely a fun board to ride, held a nice line through cutties and went rail-to-rail quite easily. The tail was what had got me into it though.

When I first picked it up I thought it was gonna be too long – too much of a board for the waves we had, and too big a contrast with some of the little tiny boards we’d been on. There were playful little waves, but more of a small-wave grovel day. But when I stepped on the board it was super alive. It had a lot of flow, and in between turns across the flat spots it had a lot of speed and drive. Whatever he’s done here, he’s done well – good job, Glyndyn.

Glyndyn’s call: “I was targeting this at the normal guy, the guy who isn’t Kelly – an easy to surf board that could lift in good waves or if you wanted to push it or throw the tail. I’ve based it on the sort of board I make for myself, going a bit deeper and more forward on the concave, lowering the entry, but blending it out towards the rail line so there’s still some rocker out there for you to tip it over and turn off. Overall the nose rocker is lower so you can paddle into waves easier and get in earlier; that’s fine as long as you balance the tail rocker to fit. The diamond shortens the rail line a bit, it’s almost like turning a 6’1” into a 5’11”. I’ve been riding a lot of different stuff myself lately. Been on a 7’ mini-mal that’s almost ready for the junkheap, but it still does cutties and everything. You’ve got to keep riding all sorts of boards – it gives you ideas.”
